C.A.R.E. 08/09
To connect with youth in a Namibian township through activities based on sharing experiences cooking and gardening.
The 2008/2009 Class Afloat Ripple Effect project saw the students of the S/V Concordia in Walvis Bay, Namibia meeting local students and building a community garden together. The students’ set their own goal for the program and then implemented it with support from Global Education Association facilitators and Class Afloat educators.

Months of planning went into the project with each student taking on roles in planning, logistics, fundraising or communication. On the day of the program, the students had to overcome the inevitable changes, curveballs and challenges which face projects in the field but they had prepared well and were ready for anything.
Everyone was just exhausted when we made it back to the ship. But happy. Glowing. They really stepped up and pulled it off.
Program planning in a developing country is always a challenge and the 2008/2009 C.A.R.E. students took away a valuable lesson, made some great friendships and began building global partnerships with their peers in Namibia.
